The US high-tech giant Google (Google) announced at a fashion summit in Copenhagen on Tuesday that it is developing a Google Cloud service to help fashion brands more fully understand the impact of the supply chain on the environment through cloud technology data analysis.

Google is actively seeking cooperation with fashion brands, fashion experts, non-governmental organizations and industry personnel to build an open, covering the whole industry, based on cloud technology tools, more intuitive to show the impact of raw material manufacturing process on the environment, compare the differences between different regions. The leading designer of green fashion, Stella McCartney (Stella Macartney), is the first partner of Google.

The tool is currently in the testing stage. In the future, Google will also increase the data collection source of the tool, cover the main factors such as air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, land use and water consumption, and help companies better observe the environmental impact of raw materials.

Google and Stella McCartney will first apply this tool to the production of cotton and viscose fibers. Cotton fiber accounts for 25% of the fiber consumption in the fashion industry. A lot of water and pesticides are used in the production process. The production of viscose fiber requires a large number of timber, which is considered to be one of the reasons leading to deforestation.

Nick Martin, director of retail at Google Cloud, said: "the fashion industry is now paying more attention to sustainable development than ever before. It has a huge impact on the environment, a large part of which comes from the supply chain, but the degree of spanparency is not ideal. We hope that this project will help fashion brands more intuitively understand the impact of the supply chain on the environment, and provide practical insights for them to take sustainable development factors into account before purchasing raw materials. "

McCartney said on this cooperation: "we have been committed to making the fashion industry sustainable development. This is our vision. We will do our best. This will be a new chapter in the fashion industry and environmental protection. "

Stella McCartney has always been a champion of sustainable fashion and environmental protection. According to United Nations data, 20% of the world's wastewater and 10% of its carbon emissions come from the fashion industry. In recent years, many fashion companies have also realized the seriousness of environmental problems and carried out a series of related sustainable development activities.
